Bunker Survey

The Bunker Survey service is the inspection that verifies the amount of fuel on board a vessel, to ensure that the amount of fuel is accurate and matches the records and documentation on board, to avoid fraud, waste and theft.

The bunker is a critical component for the operation of vessels, and an insufficient quantity can result in voyage delays, while an excessive quantity can represent additional costs.

EXCELLENCE IN THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY

This check is often carried out during the transfer of fuel from the supplier to the vessel, ensuring that the quantity and quality of the bunker is as specified in the contract.

The quality of the bunker is also a concern, as impurities or low-quality fuel can cause damage to the vessel’s engines.

The results of the Bunker Survey are documented in detailed reports, which are used for registration, accounting and regulatory compliance purposes. This process is essential to comply with international regulations and standards, such as the Marpol Protocol rules, which aim to control marine pollution.

On/off Hire Survey

An inspection carried out at the beginning or end of a charter contract which consists of a detailed assessment of the vessel’s general condition and whether it complies with the standards of international conventions and codes.

The “On Hire” inspection assesses the condition of the holds, hull, cranes, machinery and other essential equipment for navigation and cargo operation and their certificates, as well as the amount of fuel on board.

The “Off Hire” inspection focuses on assessing whether the vessel has been returned in the condition agreed at the start of the contract, which may include repairing damage or normal wear and tear, as well as ascertaining the amount of fuel remaining on board.

bunker survey

The Spot/Detective Bunker Survey service is a one-off inspection, carried out at the request of the charterer/owner, to check that the amount of fuel is in line with what the captain has declared in the logbook.

During the inspection, all fuel tanks are carefully probed in order to collect accurate data on the amount of fuel oil on the vessel.

Our team thoroughly checks all the factors that could influence the amount of oil, avoiding any possible discrepancies in the amount of oil declared to interested parties.

bunker quantity survey

The Bunker Quantity Survey is a crucial service in the shipping industry, providing our clients with an accurate picture of the amount of fuel received by the vessel. This ensures that the quantity of bunker delivered is in line with the quantity required.

Our equipment is gauged and certified to take accurate measurements. To determine the exact quantity, we probe the ship and the supply vessel before and after bunkering.

In addition to measuring the quantity, the service can also include taking samples to send to the laboratory, ensuring that it complies with the established standards.

Sludge Survey

The Sludge Survey is a fundamental inspection that consists of quantifying the oil residue removed from on board, also known as “sludge”, which accumulates in the internal parts of a vessel’s tanks and machinery.

It can include taking samples for analysis and compliance with environmental standards and regulations, helping to determine the need for separation and cleaning processes.

Maintaining proper control over oil residues is key to preventing pollution of the oceans and ensuring compliance with environmental laws, as well as helping to avoid blockages and operational problems in the vessel’s machinery and systems.
